Lesley Grimes
6th Grade and Connections Assistant Principal
Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

The Principal’s Update: March

The month of March is already upon us. We are finishing our 3rd quarter of school and students will begin taking their District Assessments the first week of March. Please be sure to check your son or daughter’s teachers’ eCLASS pages to find out more information and to help your child prepare for these important assessments. Our 5th graders and their parents from Norton and Britt Elementary will have an opportunity to visit Snellville Middle this month to tour our school, meet teachers, learn about 6th grade expectations and find out about the exciting opportunities that await them in middle school.
We always have plenty to celebrate at Snellville Middle School. I would like to congratulate our 7th and 8th grade Orchestra students who participated in the GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) and earned Superior ratings, which is the highest you can score. Way to go students and Ms. Donnaud! Our band and chorus students will participate in LGPE this month so let us wish them good luck. Our Fine Arts department is second to none!
Congratulations to Jose Delgado, a district finalist in the National Geography Bee who has advanced to the state and will compete at the Georgia State Bee on Friday, March 31st. We wish Jose the best of luck in competition!
Emergency Drills

It is a standard practice for schools to practice fire, tornado and lockdown drills each school year. Snellville Middle has scheduled a lockdown drill for the month of March. In light of recent events, an email will be sent to parents informing them of the lockdown drill. Additionally, students will be informed immediately prior to the drill taking place so that they are aware that it is a drill. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our emergency drill practice please contact me or your child’s grade level Assistant Principal.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) Night

We are looking forward to our 3rd Annual STEAM Night on Tuesday, March 6th. STEAM allows our students to connect their classroom learning in Science, Technology, and Math and apply Art practices, elements, and design principles in their innovations. STEAM removes limitations and allows for student creativity and ingenuity. Thank you to our Math, Science and Art teachers for encouraging our students to be innovators and showcase their learning in a unique way.
Parent Workshops

Please join us for our March parent workshops. This month’s sessions will focus on Georgia Milestones and Transitioning to 6th grade. Our second GA Milestones workshop will be held this Saturday, March 18th at 10:00 a.m. and our Transition Workshop for 5th grade Parents will be held on Tuesday, March 21st at 6:30 p.m. at Snellville Middle. We look forward to hosting these two very informative parent sessions.
Menchan’s March Madness(M3) & Student Council Color Walk Fundraiser

We are hosting our 2nd Color Walk Fundraiser on March 30th. Students have an opportunity to raise money for our school and have fun at the same time. Funds will be used to support our school wide initiatives and programs (e.g. PBIS, STEAM Night, Literacy Night, Student of the Month) and a portion of funds raised will be given to support the Aimee Copeland Foundation. To learn more about the Aimee Copeland foundation CLICK HERE. Students who wish to participate in the fundraiser must purchase a ticket and return a signed permission form by the due date.
Parents, we are doing marvelous things for our students at Snellville Middle! We will continue to challenge our students to become independent thinkers, leaders and life-long learners. I am a very proud principal!

Sincerely,
Katise Menchan
Principal
Georgia parent Survey

Each year, the state of Georgia asks our students, teachers and our parents to complete a Health Survey related to the overall climate of Snellville Middle School.
For the last 3 years, Snellville Middle has received a 4 out of 5 climate star rating. We receive this high rating because our parents share about the great things happening at Snellville Middle by participating in this survey required by the state.
Please take a moment to complete this parent survey so we can continue earning a 4 or 5 star Climate rating for our school. We deserve it!
