6th Grade Assistant Principal

Dear Parents,

First semester is coming to an end. Congratulations, you and your child have survived the 1st semester of middle school. Next week your child will take a posttest in his/her connection classes and content area classes. Please encourage your child to study for the exams since the exam grade is the last grade your child will receive for 1st semester.

Just a reminder of our promotion criteria for 6th grade: Students must pass 5 out of 6 classes with language arts and math being two of the five each semester.

Please be on the lookout for a letter from Ms. Butler, 8th grade counselor and AAP Coordinator in regards to AAP- Academic Assistance Program for grade recovery. If your child needs grade recovery, he/she will get an application/letter. Each subject area for grade recovery will cost $60.00. The classes will be held on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. January 23, 2016- February 27, 2016.

Winter break is December 21, 2015- January 5, 2016. Students return to school on January 6, 2016. If I personally do not see you or talk with you before Dec. 18, 2015, please have a safe and enjoyable winter break.

Please don’t hesitate to call me at 770-736-4455, or email me at Twanitta_pouncey@gwinnett.k12.ga.us

Well, we are almost through the first semester, which means it is time for grades/exams, but also concerts, basketball, and time off. Here are a few reminders for this month.

  • Final exams are  Dec. 17 and 18. No exams may be taken early. Those who miss an exam will have to make it up in January.

  • Grades will be finalized during the first week of January, and report cards should be coming home during the second week of January.

  • Promotion criteria requires students to pass all of their Milestones test at the end of the year, so there will not be an AAP for 7th graders to make up failed classes.

  • You have 24/7 access to your student's grade through the parent portal. If you do not have a login, please stop by the front office to get one (this can only be done in person). Also, your student has a login to the student portal, which allows access to the web pages for each class.

  • Our boys and girls basket ball teams are both undefeated and playing at a high level. Please make it a point to come see a game. You can find the full schedules on the school website.

  • Our Band, Orchestra, and Chorus Winter concert was this past Tuesday, and we had amazing attendance, performances, and flexibility. Thank you to all for being there, and congratulations to all groups for terrific performances.

  • Student's second semester schedules will be coming out on the last day before the Winter Break. Most will not have significant schedule changes, though many will change which period they take each class, due to leveling. Also, students will then get their new connections classes, if applicable.

  • With this last two weeks of class being so important, I have also let students know that this is similar to the orange "Work Zone Speeding Fines Doubled" signs we see on the road. Any discipline infraction will receive a more severe consequence than it would at another time of the year because of the impact it could have on instruction.

  • Dec. 18th is the final day of the semester, and next semester will begin on January 6th.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any concern you have regarding 7th grade. My office number is (770)736-4464 and my e-mail is      jeremy_reily@gwinnett.k12.ga.us
