6th Grade and Connections Assistant Principal
Greetings Parents,
Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.
Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

The Principal’s Update: February
Report cards went home with students on Monday, January 11th and new grades have started for the second semester. Congratulations to all of our parents whose child(ren) received recognition for their first semester academic accomplishments. Please continue to work as a team with your child and his/her teachers to make the 2nd semester a success.
Here are a few key reminders as we move into second semester:
-
School wide Help Days: Tuesday – Language Arts & Social Studies, Wednesday – Math & Science,
Thursday – Connections. Help Day begins at 8:15 a.m. -
Check the parent portal weekly.
-
Check your child’s My eClass page.
-
Please discuss with your child the importance of being a leader at SMS and keeping their hands, objects and unkind words to themselves each day.
-
Early release conferences will be held in February. Be on the lookout for conference information within the next few weeks. Snellville Middle School utilizes the student-led conference format for our students. Research shows that schools whose students participate in student-led conferences begin to show academic improvement as students assume personal responsibility and become actively involved in their academic success.
-
Know your child’s promotion criteria
-
Students who were recommended for the Academic Assistance Program(AAP) to meet promotion have been notified. If you have not been contacted and believe your child has not met the promotion criteria from first semester, please contact Ms. Butler in the counseling department.
Parents, we are doing marvelous things for our students at Snellville Middle! We will continue to challenge our students to become independent thinkers and life-long learners.
