Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear Parents,
It is that time of the year again for Early Release conferences. During 1st Semester, Snellville Middle School piloted Student-Led Conferences in 6th grade and in some select classes in 7th and 8th.
What are student led conferences? Student-Led Conferences are conferences in which the child is not only present, but in charge of explaining his or her progress, reflecting on accomplishments, and setting short and long-term educational goals. Teachers will be there to add to the student’s comments when needed, but the student most-definitely is at the center of the process.
Why Student-Led Conferences? To empower the child to take responsibility for his/her learning; to give the parent and teacher a chance to hear the student reflect on his/her progress in his/her own words; and to hold the student accountable for his/her academic and behavioral choices.
Based on the responses from the parents who completed surveys in September, 2015, parents enjoyed the conference format because it allowed the students to take ownership in their learning and with the supporting work samples, the students could articulate their strengths and challenges.
Each parent should have received a letter by now. RSVP by February 16, 2016, so we can save a special place in the classroom for you and your child on Wednesday, February 24 or Thursday, February 25. If you have not received a letter, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

Congratulations to our entire athletic department! Both of our basketball teams completed the regular season undefeated! They are the regular season champions. That is quite an accomplishment that has never been experienced in Gwinnett County. We are so proud of both teams. Our Lady Comets are making a run at the county championship right now! Go Comets!
