Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear Parents,
Thank you for a great turnout during Early Release Conferences. We had more parents attend the Student-Led Conferences this semester than any time in many years. We have completed three fourths of our school year. We are only 18 days away from Milestones and 47 days from the end of our school year. (Reminder: promotion criteria for 7th grade is to pass all 4 Milestones Assessments).
Our week of silent transitions is over, and we will see in the coming weeks if it has been successful in reestablishing our transition expectations. Here is some basic data from the week on infractions. 82% of students did not receive an infraction and 12% of students received just one infraction. Moreover, teachers were able to start class faster and students were more focused because they came in settled down and ready to work. We may go back to silent transitions occasionally for the rest of the year.
Finally, as we begin preparing for next year, students may have the opportunity to take High School Science and Math courses. Several parents have asked, what the determining factor is, and there are several. Here are the basic things I look at (the top two are given the most weight by far):
· Scoring in the Distinguished range on the Math Milestone.
· Interim and Final Exam scores (minimum requirement is generally an 85)
· Milestone scores from 6th grade
· CogAT scores from 5th grade
· Class grades from 7th and 6th grade
Letters will be going out during the summer letting you know if your child has qualified for Physical Science EOC and/or Algebra I.
Important dates to remember:
Friday- March 11- Student/teacher holiday
Tuesday-Friday -March 15-18-Interim Assessments (midterms)
Friday-April 1- Student/teacher holiday
Monday-Friday-April 4-8- spring break
Tuesday-Friday-April 19-29- Milestones End of Grade Assessments
Thursday-May 12- End of the year Awards (invitation only)
