6th Grade and Connections Assistant Principal
Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Milestones Ready
We are gearing up to do our best! Teachers and students have been working hard all year to equip students to be successful in all of their classes and to show what they have learned on the Georgia Milestones Assessment. To ensure that our students are ready to do their best, here are a few testing reminders:
-
Get a good night's sleep before each testing day. Try to avoid late sports practices or games, late night T.V. and late cell phone calls/texting during testing. When students are rested they are able to concentrate and do their best on the test.
-
Eat a light, nutritious breakfast each morning before testing. Food is the fuel that powers the body and the brain. Fruits, carbohydrates such as breads and proteins such as eggs work best to give your child testing energy.
-
Be in school each day and on time. Schedule any doctor or dentist appointments in the late afternoon during the week of testing. Students will not be allowed to be checked out of class while testing is taking place. We can not interrupt testing to call students for checkout during the morning testing sessions or during afternoon makeup sessions.
-
During the Milestones testing window, there will be no Help Days and no before/after school activities. We want our students to be focused and ready!
Summer Middle School Career Academy Camp
Grayson Technical School will hold a middle school career academy (camp) for any current middle school student, or rising 6th grader. This is a 4-day camp that allows students to explore a career field and get hands-on experience in an area of interest to them. Camp sessions are half-day, and is $75 for the week. Students can choose to stay all day for $150. Camp will run from May 31-June 3, 2016. Registration for camp is via MyPaymentsPlus. Click here for more details.
