6th Grade and Connections Assistant Principal
Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

It's hard to believe that the school year is so quickly coming to a close. Thank you, parents, for all of your hard work in helping your students be so successful. We have more students with A's and B's this year than we have had in years.
Here is some information to keep in mind for wrapping up the year:
-
Final exams will be held on May 24th and 25th. 1st and 2nd Academics will be Tuesday, 3rd and 4th Academics will be Wednesday. These will be at least 10% of your student's final grade in each class.
-
Additional information on promotion criteria will go home with all students Friday afternoon and then also go out in an e-mail blast. Please look for that information, and further communication.
-
Discipline consequences are escalated at the end of the year because of how absolutely essential these last few days are.
It is an honor to get to support the students of the 7th grade, and please let me know if there is anything I can do to help make these last 8 days a success. You can reach me by phone at (770)736-4464 and by email at jeremy_reily@gwinnett.k12.ga.us.
From Jeff Taylor
8th Grade Assistant Principal
The end of the school year is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of Snellville Middle School, our students and acknowledge our committed faculty. Most importantly, this is a time to finish strong and prepare for a relaxing summer.
The 8th grade students have had a remarkable year. We experienced several field trips and unique events this school year. This would not have been possible without our committed parents, enthusiastic faculty and staff who work tirelessly to provide a quality education for our students.
This is also a time for me to acknowledge my wonderful experiences at Snellville Middle School. I’ve had the pleasure to serve here since 2007. I’m so excited to be named the next Athletic Director at South Gwinnett High School. The Comet fans will soon experience a sport program that will strive for excellence and state championships! I’m happy to continue to serve the community I’ve known for almost 10 years.

Middle School Promotion Criteria and
Summer School Information
On May 5, 2016, the State Board of Education granted a waiver of promotion, placement, and retention requirements tied to the 2016 administration of the Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) tests. As a result, Gwinnett County Public Schools will use grades to determine promotion and retention for students at the elementary and middle school levels. Once final grades are determined, local schools will communicate with parents of students recommended for summer school. Below you will find the criteria the school system will use for promotion and to determine which students are eligible for summer school.

*For promotion of an English Learner (EL) student, schools will consider the student's progress on his/her English Learner Proficiency Plan and the student's growth in academic language proficiency on ACCESS.
**Promotion decisions regarding the placement of special education students will be guided by their Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
May 25 is the last day of the school year. Once your child’s final grades are determined you will be contacted by your child’s school if your child is recommended for Summer School.
All Library Books Are Now Due
