Dear Parents,

We have had a terrific first month. As many of you have seen, there will be some schedule changes taking effect on Monday. Change is always difficult, and I do sincerely regret that we did not meet our enrollment projection. I appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we undergo this unavoidable discomfort. Every child will have a highly-qualified teacher that will continue to help every child learn, and learn at a high level. With this in mind, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any issue you have. While I am rarely actually in my office, I should be able to get back to you fairly quickly; e-mail is probably the best way to reach me.

I am also pleased that we have our Teacher of the Year on the 7th grade. Myra Bodrick is an absolutely terrific teacher, and I know that as she leads the Language Arts Department, every student is positively impacted by her knowledge and influence.

We are over a month in to the school year, and students have completed their first tests and grades are gradually starting to develop in a meaningful way. With that in mind, September 28-29, Early Release Conference days for Middle School students. This year all students will participate in Student-led Conferences. Letters and invitations will come home soon for all students.  Please be sure to sign up for a time to meet with your child, so he/she can share with you how he/she has been doing in the academic classes. His/her teachers will be in attendance to support your child’s discussion. I look forward to seeing many of you then.

Please don’t hesitate to call me at 770-736-4469, or email me at jeremy_reily@gwinnett.k12.ga.us.

Kind Regards,

Jeremy Reily

8th Grade Assistant Principal

Dear 8th grade Parents,

Dear 8th grade Parents:

Your child will be participating in the 2016 administration of the Cognitive Abilities Test(CogAT) which measures students' verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal reasoning abilities.  The results of this test will help assess how well your child is performing and assist with plans to meet your child's academic needs.

The administration will occur as follows:

  • Wednesday, September 21, 2016: Verbal - Sections 1, 2, & 3

  • Thursday, September 22, 2016: Quantitative - Sections 4, 5 & 6

  • Friday, September 23, 2016: Nonverbal - Sections 7, 8 & 9

Thank you for making sure your child is present and on time each of these days. Our staff wants to provide your child with the best opportunity to be successful. Since the formal testing environment cannot be duplicated, it is important that your child is at school during these scheduled test days.  Once testing has begun each day, no child will be allowed to enter the classroom tardy.  Be sure to plan any medical or dental appointments after 12:00 p.m. on testing days.

Although no studying or preparation is necessary for this test, please be sure your 8th grader is ready to do his/her best each day by doing the following:

  • Get plenty of rest

  • Eat a healthy breakfast

  • Be at school on time

  • Be prepared (glasses if needed.)

Thank your for your support during this important testing time period.
