Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Family Literacy Night

The Snellville MS Language Arts department
would like to thank all of the families who
attended our 3rd annual Family Literacy
Night on Thursday, October 27th. It was a
festive evening filled with interactive
literary fun! This year, we offered six
activity rooms that included everything
from writing Halloween Haikus to
descriptive writing activities like “Draw
My Monster”. Students were able to win
tasty treats for completing each activity.
Throughout the evening, everyone
munched on freshly-popped popcorn,
punch, and goodies from C-Bo’s food truck.
Language Arts teachers hosting the event as well as students were dressed up as famous book characters. In order to freeze these moments in time, students and parents were able to have their "mugshot" made at our Banned Books Photo Booth...complete with funny props. Participants also received goodie cups with school supplies, stickers, treats, and other cool items. We’re so glad that you and your family were
able to come share
literacy fun with us,
and we hope to see
you again next year!
South Gwinnett Cluster Middle School Math Night

Our first South Gwinnett Cluster Middle School Math Night was a success. Students, teachers, and parents from both Snellville and Grace Snell Middle School came out for the evening. The parents and students were able to preview the upcoming AKS using manipulatives, technology, and problem solving. Our Student Math Leaders shared their energy and love for mathematics by helping both students and parents. Our SMS students who did an exceptional job were McKayla Clifford, Oliva Salmon, Jaime Cruz, Eric Erbach, and Olana Jebel. The night was a great reminder that anyone can be successful in mathematics. . .especially in the South Gwinnett Cluster.
We look forward to continuing this collaboration in January
with Grace Snell. Be on the
lookout for information about
our next interactive math
night. Hope to see you there!
Technology Update
We have noticed a number of our students getting locked out of their Student Portal account with no explanation – and now we think we have an explanation.
If a student portal password is entered incorrectly 3 times the student will be locked out for 5 minutes. If a student or parent has their phone, tablet, or personal computer set to remember passwords and the password changes, the device will continue to try to login with the incorrect password, automatically locking the student out repeatedly. The fix for this situation is to either not have the devices set to remember the portal password or to make sure the password is changed on all devices once the password is reset. Please let your children know about this issue and ask them to log out of their portal account, then log back on with their new password if their portal password changes.
Another issue we have noticed at school is that many students are still using their own data plan while at school. Data you are paying for. Gwinnet County Public School’s policy states that students should use the filtered Wi-Fi provided by the school. Students may connect their device to the GCPS Mobile wireless network. They will use their portal login and password to connect to this network.
Picture Make Up Day
Picture Make Up Day will be Thursday, November 10th. This is for students that were absent on October 3rd or those who purchased a portrait package and would like a retake. Original portraits need to be returned.
