Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Greetings Comet Family. I can hardly believe we only have 14 days to go before winter break! This would be a great time parents to look at the parent portal with your child. Additionally, please review the promotion criteria for your specific grade level. We are ending semester 1 and will begin semester 2 when we return to school in January. This weekend would be a great time to look at the parent portal to check for any assignments that may have a NTI, not turned in, and speak with the teacher about turning in missing assignments as well as retaking quizzes that scored below a passing grade.

Feel free to contact your child's counselor, Ms. Butler or Dr. Moon, for added support or answering questions pertaining to promotion requirements.

Counting down to 2016 and reaching forward to Semester 2 in 2017!

Happy Holidays,
Ms. Butler and Dr. Moon
It’s Comets Basketball Time

Our girls' and boys' basketball teams defeated Richard's Middle yesterday, and our cheerleaders did an outstanding job! Our boys won a close victory at 38 - 37 and our girls came out on top with a score of 32 - 15. Please congratulate our student athletes and coaches when you see them. Way to go, Comets!
Come out tomorrow and support our student athletes as they compete against Jordan Middle at South Gwinnett at 9:00 a.m. We look forward to seeing you at the game.

The Book Fair Is Coming!
December 2 - 9.
The Scholastic Book Fair has something for everyone! There will be a great selection of middle school new-releases and popular favorites! Encourage reading at home by purchasing high-interest books at a great price for your student. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Snellville Middle School media program and help us add more books to our collection! Book fair flyers will be coming home next week so be sure to take a few minutes to preview the fair with your student. We will be accepting cash, checks (made payable to SCHOLASTIC) and credit cards if a parent is present. Please e-mail Tiffanie Hitchcock (tiffanie_hitchcock@gwinnett.k12.ga.us) if you have any questions.
See you at the fair!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found is piling up! If your child is missing clothing, shoes, jackets, etc… please remind them to get a pass from a teacher then go to the Lost and Found in the New Gym. If your child has misplaced their glasses our clinic has a nice selection of eyeglasses waiting to be reunited with their owner. Unclaimed Lost and Found items are donated to local charities on a regular basis so don’t delay, come claim today.
Looking for that Perfect Gift?
If you are considering purchasing a device for your student check out this handy guide that explains the benefits of each type of device. Our teachers are incorporating BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) more often so purchasing the right device for your student could be a smart gift idea.
