SMS Student Leaders continue to give! Student Council’s 2nd Annual “Lattes with a Promise” fundraiser yielded almost $400 from selling hot chocolate with toppings on Tuesdays during December before school. Great job and thank you parents and students who supported this event.

Student Council representatives voted to focus giving in a greater way this year! The consensus was to give to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Angie Duprey received a check for $500 to help middle-school aged students during the holiday season.

2nd Semester Promotion requirements

Parents & students, please be reminded of the promotion criteria as the first semester has ended and as we begin the second semester. All grade levels must pass 5 of 6 classes each semester with Math and Language Arts being two of the five.

Hold your students accountable for going on eClass daily, attending Help Days, studying based on their learning style, and having good school attendance.

Students who have not been successful in meeting promotion criteria for first semester need to attend AAP (Academic Assistance Program) for five Saturdays beginning on February 4, 2017 to March 4, 2017.

Each Saturday will be divided into two sessions. Session A will be Math or Science from 7:30 to 10:30am. Session B will be Language Arts or Social Studies from 10:45 to 1:45pm. Each academic subject area class will be $90.

If your student needs to attend AAP, you will receive a letter with additional registration information as well there will be an indicator on your student’s report card. Report cards will be distributed during homeroom on Wednesday, January 11, 2017.

Happy New Year,

Ms. Butler and Dr. Moon

Welcome to our New AP’s

Please join me in officially welcoming Assistant Principals, Jean Callins and Lonnee Dickson to Snellville Middle School.   Ms. Callins and Ms. Dickson will be filling in for Mr.  Reily during his absence as he finishes his principal residency training.  We are extremely fortunate to have such knowledgeable and experienced Assistant Principals working with us this semester.  You may contact Ms. Callins or Ms. Dickson this semester in the 7th grade office for any questions or concerns regarding your 7th grade student.

Katise Menchan, Principal

Ms.  Jean Callins, Assistant Principal, Interim

My name is Jean Callins and I am a retired Assistant Principal with many years of experience in Gwinnett County.  Since retiring from the Shiloh Cluster in 2012, I have had the pleasure of working in the Mill Creek, South Gwinnett, Central, and Meadowcreek Clusters.

I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, AL.  I received my Masters of Education Degree from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, GA.  I earned my Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, TN.

Snellville Middle School has given me an opportunity to work with this great community and I am excited about becoming a part of a team that pursues excellence.  As we work together, we will strive to provide quality instruction in an environment that is conducive to learning and will prepare our students to meet future challenges.

Please join me in building a team for students’ success (i.e. students, parents, and staff).  Our ability to communicate and address all concerns is a priority.  I look forward to working with you so that students will acquire skills that will enable them to become productive citizens.

Sincerely,

Jean Callins

Ms.  Lonnee Dickson, Assistant Principal, Interim

As a new assistant principal for Snellville Middle School, I am proud to introduce myself to your community.  I have thirty-eight years of teaching and leadership experience.  With many years of middle school experience, teacher of the year in two Gwinnett middle schools, and a retired assistant principal from the Central Cluster I bring a rich background to your school.

My Bachelor of Science degree is from the University of Wisconsin, Masters in Curriculum development at Piedmont College, and my Administration and Leadership Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University.  My passion for learning and love of children has kept me committed to my career in education. I have been rewarded many times over with seeing students meet challenges and grow academically. With a world class school system, exceptional teachers, and challenging standards, our students will successfully meet the obstacles ahead.

Our team effort as a community of parents, teachers, and students is essential.  I look forward to meeting you and feeling your support this school year.

Sincerely,

Lonnee Dickson
