Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Parent Survey Time
State and District Surveys
The Gwinnett County Public School system is committed to providing students with the best possible education and school experience. Our students and staff are reaching higher heights each year at Snellville Middle. Please share with the district and the state about all the things that we do so well and any areas that we can grow by completing the following surveys:
GCPS RBES Parent Survey is available through the GCPS Parent Portal. If you have not signed up for the parent portal, please go to the GCPS website at www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us and click on the ‘Parents” tab for more information or contact the school to sign up for access.
Georgia Parent Survey is available at http://apps.gadoe.org/schoolclimate/parents.nsf/Survey.xsp Select Gwinnett County Public Schools then select Snellville Middle School to complete the survey.
Your input is critical for our school’s continued success. Please be sure to complete the both surveys. Parent participation in the state survey helps our state CCRPI score.
Did you know? Snellville Middle School, received a grade of “B” from the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement, the only Title I school in Gwinnett County to receive this grade from the state. To help put this in perspective, our school received the same grade as the following non-title middle schools of Lanier, Trickum, Bay Creek, Creekland, Jones, and Duluth. Additionally, our student growth was higher than 88% of the schools in the state last year. Snellville Middle also has been designated a Distinguished Breakout Middle School by GASSP for our academic achievement. We must share and tell our story!
Data Verification
Data verification forms will be sent home next Friday, January 27th with your child. Please check the phone numbers and contact information provided and make any necessary updates. The phone number and email information provided on the data verification is used to send important information regarding school, emergency, and/or weather updates to parents. Please be sure to sign and return the data form to school as soon as possible.
Georgia Student Health Survey
In order to provide the most effective drug and violence prevention resources and/or activities for your child, The Title IV Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities program collects survey information from students at various grade levels during the school year. Our students will be participating in the survey in the next couple of weeks. If you DO NOT wish for your child to participate in this important activity, please click the link below and sign and return the form to the school by Friday, February 3, 2017. You only need to return the form if you DO NOT wish for your child to participate, otherwise no further action is needed.
If you would like to examine the survey, please come by the school between 8: 30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., on or before Friday, February 3, 2017 and we will be happy to provide you with a copy to review.
