Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear 7th Grade Parents,
This is a great time of the year to help your child to review their goals for the semester and reflect on their organizational habits. We will have student-led conferences on our early release days February 22nd and 23rd where you can hear about their progress and what they have been learning. This semester will move quickly for our students and focusing on academic success in the class and promotion to 8th grade is critical.

Curriculum & Instruction, & Connections

Parents,
Can you believe it is time to start thinking about the 2017-2018 school year? Our Connections teachers will be talking to their 6th and 7th grade classes about continuing in their year long programs for next year. We are really proud of the progress our students are making in JLC, Band, Orchestra, and Chorus. We hope your child will continue this work next year. Please speak with your child's teacher if you have any questions about next year.
It is time for our Large Group Performance Evaluations. Our Orchestra students will be performing at 1:50 pm at Archer High School on February 18th. The Band will be performing on March 8th at 1:00 pm at Discovery High School, and our Chorus students will be singing on March 16th at 6:00 pm at Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church. Please come support these students and the hard work they have put into their fine arts class. We know that Ms. Donnaud, Mr. Turner, Mr. Smith, and all of the students will represent SMS well.

Weekly Calendar
Cyber Learning Day

If we miss more than three school days due to inclement weather this school year GCPS will utilize Cyber Learning Days to make up the additional missed days. The first 3 days missed due to snow or other inclement weather will be made up on our scheduled Snow Make Up days. On the fourth day missed students will be asked to log onto each of their teacher's eCLASS pages to complete the Cyber Learning Day lessons. Utilizing Cyber Learning Days will keep us from having to make up school days at the end of the year.

Teachers will also check in periodically throughout the day to answer questions students may have. Students may post questions about the assignment to a discussion board in eCLASS.

Students that don't have Internet access at home will be allowed to complete the assignment once we return to school following our regular make-up policy.

The first day missed will be used as a practice run for students. Students will be asked to log on and complete a very short activity for each class.
