Lesley Grimes
6th Grade and Connections Assistant Principal
Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Technology Update
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
As we continue to roll out BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) at Snellville Middle School this year we would like to make parents aware of a few important items.
-
Students may bring their own Smart Phone, eReader, Tablet, or Laptop computer to school.
-
Teachers have the option of allowing students to use their device during class for specific instructional activities.
-
Students should always use the GCPS filtered Wi-Fi, they should never use their own 3G or 4G data plan. Students will connect to the GCPS Mobile wireless network.
-
Students are solely responsible for their device while on the bus, at school, and after school.
-
If students are allowed to listen to their device they should use earbuds but only in one ear.
-
Students should not use their devices in the hallways, cafeteria, restroom, or other public spaces. Devices are for teacher assigned instructional use only.
G Suite for Education

Snellville Middle School is now a G Suite for Education school. All students have a G Suite account that includes access to Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and a number of other Google services designed for education. Students do not have access to email or Youtube through their Snellville Middle Google account.
One of the key advantages of using G Suite is that students can work on assignments while at school using a school owned computer or their own device then continue working from outside of school on almost any device such as a tablet, Chromebook, computer, or smart phone. Another advantage of G Suite is the ability for students to collaborate on assignments. Multiple students can work on and edit a single document. The teacher has access to see exactly what each student in the group contributed.
Headphones or Earbuds
Students are asked to have an inexpensive set of headphones or earbuds to use while in the computer labs or with school owned or their own devices. Students do not need an expensive set of earbuds or headphones at school.
Stay Informed with the Parent Portal
If you are not already on the Parent Portal please stop by the office and sign up. This awesome resource allows you to track your child's grades and attendance in real time from any computer.
Spring Break is Friday, May 31st – Friday, April 7th. Students return to school on Monday, April 10th.
