Connecting School to Home

Parents, here are some suggestions on how you can support your student and connect what they are doing at school and at home.  Please take a quick read.

Academics

At School: Students are preparing for student-led conferences, so they are assessing their grades and putting together work samples to support their progression this semester. In addition to this, students are identifying their academic goals and how they can accomplish these goals. Students are able to attend help days are every Wednesday at 8:15 AM to get extra academic support from their teachers.

At Home: Have conversations with your student about their academic progress and help them solidify a plan of action to continue their success or improve their performance.

Social

At School: Teachers and Staff monitor our students in the hallways and in the classroom. We encourage students to actively maintain a respectful environment. When this expectation falls short we aid students in resolving the issue through mediations and de-escalation strategies. Every day students have opportunities to learn and develop positive leadership and character development skills.

At Home: Encourage your child to practice and display positive interpersonal skills and conflict resolution.

Careers

At School: We use academy time to help our students explore different careers available for exploration and experience as early as 9th grade. South Gwinnet High School is an Academy High School which allows your student to take classes directed towards various careers, and here at Snellville Middle School we want our students to be academy ready.

At Home: Discuss your student’s big dreams and fantasies. Explore options and encourage your student to have a few options. Community service and volunteering are great ways for students to get hands on experience and could lead to greater opportunities in the future for your child.

Student Let Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent teacher conferences and early release days are Wednesday September 27th and Thursday, September 28th.  Students will be released from school at 1:30 PM so that we may meet with parents concerning their child’s academic progress.  Our students and teachers have been preparing for the student-led conferences for quite some time.  Your son/daughter will share their progress and areas of growth for this school year.  The teachers will be around for brief questions or feedback; however, if you need a more in-depth conversation with your child’s teacher, please be sure to schedule a separate conference.  Snellville Middle will use an internet based parent teacher conference scheduler for faster, easier scheduling of conferences.  You can access this site by logging onto your child’s eCLASS page and using the link in the Announcement area.   If you do not have internet access, please send your child’s homeroom teacher a note with requested conference times.

Reminder about Student Deliveries

Please remember that, as stated in the Student Agenda, the front office does not accept items for delivery.

This includes PE clothes, athletic clothing/shoes, uniforms, projects, cell phones, homework, instruments, books, cupcakes, balloons, flowers or any outside food.

This is part of our COMETS Be Ready, Be Responsible program and will limit the interruptions during academic time.
