6th Grade Assistant Principal

Dear 6th Grade Parents,

We are approaching the end of the semester.  Our students have had a chance to look at their interim results and create next steps for improvement.  At home remind your student that mistakes are when we learn the most.  There is still time to improve their grades and truly master the material they are learning in 6th grade.

Next Tuesday will be our first Math Night for 2017-2018.  Please come with your student and explore resources they will be using in the upcoming weeks.  You will leave with resources you can direct your student to for assistance at home.  Our meeting will be 6:30-7:30 in the cafeteria.  The Boy Scouts will be present at 6:00 in the media center if anyone is interested in learning more about their program.

I hope to see you Tuesday night!

Dear 7th Grade Parents,

Your 7th grade students are having a blast learning many new things! They are working hard as they engage in meaningful and authentic learning opportunities.

In Language Arts students are writing realistic fiction essays. Students work collaboratively as they peer-edit their pieces and move toward their final drafts.

Social Studies students are exploring the geography and significant features of the African Continent; the Sahara, the Nile River, the Savanna, and tropical rain forests and countries; Egypt, Nigeria, and Kenya.

Lastly, in Math students are using two color counters and inequality mats to visualize inequalities.   In Science students started the Genetics Unit. Students are going to have a blast discovering how they inherit the traits that make them unique.

The Seventh Grade team of teachers is excited to help students improve their grades and reach their full potential!

Athletics Update

Athletics is off to a bouncing start! Our boys and girls basketball players are training hard. We had a scrimmage against Coleman middle where we won both games by wide margins.  We also had a successful Athletics Dance. Students danced the afternoon away as they connected with friends, ate pizza and enjoyed some good clean fun. Cheerleaders and ballplayers made a grand entrance as the crowd went wild! All of the proceeds from the dance go to support our athletic programs.

We had a huge PEP Rally to kick off the season on November 9th.  South Gwinnett varsity basketball players came over to help us celebrate. We had a three-pointer contest, three-on-three games, music, and a cheer performance. Our athletes were able to shoot around, eat lunch, and talk about high school with the South Gwinnett players. Comets are hype for the new season!

We invite everyone to join us for our first game Saturday, November 11th against Moore Middle at Central Gwinnett High School at 9:00 AM. We definitely need everyone out to support our players at our first HOME game against Richards Middle on November 30th at South Gwinnett High School. Go Comets!!

Eighth grade students were administered the PSAT8/9 on October 25, and we are anxiously awaiting the results.  The results will be available in January.

The 1st semester ends on December 20, 2017. Teachers have been working diligently to identify students that need additional supports and have been providing interventions and needed supports.
