Getting Ready To Transition

As we venture into the second semester, we are working to ensure our students are prepared for the next level. Before we know it, our 6th graders will be heading to 7th, our 7th graders will be heading to 8th, our 8th graders will be moving on to High School, and all will be one-step closer to their destination of graduation.

Sixth Grade

As our 6th grade students grow and mature, we are working to ensure that they are prepared for the transition to 7th grade and meeting promotion criteria. Students should be focusing on study skills and test taking skills to be prepared for the increased rigor of 7th grade.

Seventh Grade

Our 7th graders are one semester away from 8th grade, so they too are developing the tools to be successful in 8th grade. Through Academy Connection Time, students are being introduced to the Academies at South Gwinnett High School. Students are being prepared for the opportunity to take classes directly related to their post-secondary goals while in high school.

Eighth Grade

For our 8th grade students’, high school articulation is here! On Tuesday, the South Gwinnett Transition Team met with the students to brief them on registration, ninth grade courses, and other high school programs.

9th Grade registration forms will be sent home with students on Friday, February 2nd to be completed and expected to be returned on Friday, February 16th to the middle school.

Save the Dates

Rising 9th Grade Night at South Gwinnett High School will be Thursday, February 15th at 6:00pm. Parents & students will receive all necessary information and be able to ask additional questions about the transition process into 9th grade.

Rising 9th Grade Camp will be held daily at South Gwinnett High School starting on June 18 through June 22. Registration information will be sent home with students with other high school registration documents.

There have been changes to the 8th grade promotion criteria. Students are still required to pass 5 of 6 classes per semester and 8th grade students also are required to achieve Grade Level or above on the Reading and Vocabulary domain of the Language Arts Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) Assessment.  Eighth graders  must also achieve performance level of Developing or higher on the Mathematics Georgia Milestones EOG Assessment.

Happy Transitioning students!!!

Low Cost Internet Service
