The Principal’s Update: February

Congratulations to all of our parents whose child(ren) received recognition for their first semester academic accomplishments.  We are still celebrating our academic scholars and are hoping to host a special event for all of our 1st semester academic scholars this month. Please continue to work as a team with your child and his/her teachers to also make the 2nd semester an academic and behavioral success.

Cold & Flu Season

Parents, if you watch any news channel you are aware that our state and country is in a flu crisis. As a school, we are doing our best to prevent the spread of colds and flu by disinfecting classrooms twice daily. However, we can not prevent the spread without your help. We still have parents who are sending students to school with an elevated temperature, complaints of severe fatigue, uncontrollable cough and/or less than 24 hours of being fever free. We are sending students home within 1 or 2 hours of arriving to school. Please be mindful that when students are sent to school with symptoms they are putting other students at risk on the bus, in the hallways and in their classrooms. We know our students do not like to miss school but an ounce of prevention goes a long way. Let’s work together as a team and keep ALL of our students and faculty healthy!

School-Wide Geography Bee

Congratulations to our Geography Bee Finalist – Timothy Duong! Way to go! We are proud of all of our grade level geography bee semifinalists who competed in our semifinal round.  Our school wide winner will advance to the next level of competition. Best of luck, Timothy!

COMETS FEVER!

This is the only fever we want to catch this season! Comets Fever! We are heading to tournament play and to the playoffs! Please come out and support our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams and spirited cheerleaders during our final weeks of competition. Tournament games for the Eastern Division are this Saturday, February 3rd at Brookwood High School.  Our boys’ game begins at 4:30 p.m. with our girls’ game beginning immediately after the boys at 6:00 p.m.  Bring your entire family, friends, and neighbors to the game!  We should fill the stands with Comets! Be sure to show your Comets pride and support and wear Comets Spiritwear to the game.  Look forward to seeing you there!

Annual Black History Program

Select students and teachers will host our 4th Annual Black History Program during the school day on Friday, February, 23rd showcasing art, music, poetry and dance to celebrate black history and its influence in America. Each year our program grows and our students do such an outstanding job!  Auditions to participate in the program took place on Thursday, February 1st.  Good luck to all the students who auditioned!

Discipline Talks

Our semester 2 discipline review talks will take place with students over the next several weeks. Assistant Principals will meet briefly with all students in their respective grade levels to remind them of behavior expectations and what it means to be a Ready, Respectful and Responsible Snellville Middle student.

Sincerely,

Katise Menchan

Principal

Snow Make-Up Days

Thanks to Digital Learning Days, teaching and learning continued when that wintery blast hit metro Atlanta this month.  However, the three school days missed in September due to Irma-related weather will be made up, using designated days built into the 2017-2018 school calendar.  Those make-up days – February 23, March 9, and March 23 – will now be school days.

February 9 and February 19 remain student holidays.    Click here to view the calendar.
