6th Grade Parents,

Welcome to SMS!  We are excited about this year and partnering with you for your student’s success.  The students started their new Connections schedule on Tuesday, August 14th.  Students will have 2 Connections classes in the fall and 2 in the spring.  Other than Band, Orchestra and Chorus, the classes are randomly selected.

The students were able to hear about the classes and ways to get involved at the school in a pep rally on Monday.  Our 8th grade peer leaders went over what it takes to be successful at each grade level.  The students seemed to enjoy hearing from their peers and learning about Snellville Middle School.

Thank you to those parents that were able to attend our Curriculum Night on Tuesday.  It is important for us to keep you informed about your child’s education.  Be sure to contact your child’s teacher if you were unable to attend.

There are many resources on the eCLASS course pages for reference.  Each day the students should spend 20 minutes reading as well as time practicing their math skills.  Regular practice will lead to great gains this year.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  This is going to be a wonderful year at Snellville Middle.

Welcome Back 7th Grade!

This school year is truly going to be something special. The seventh grade is going to be filled with passion, as well as an excitement for learning.  The teachers have been working diligently to ensure a fantastic school opening. The instructional and common expectations have been provided to each student. Our students have received training on the Common Expectations, engaged in homeroom meetings and were administered the District Assessment Pre-Test. It has been a busy two weeks!

Our students feel the energy and have a clear understanding that they are the reason we are here. It is important that they know we care about their success. Parents, we value your opinion and look forward to your support during the 2018-2019 school year.

Thank you for joining us on Curriculum Night to meet your child’s teacher and learn additional information regarding the seventh grade content.

Snellville Middle School Comets have returned…… Respectful, Responsible and Ready to learn!

Regards,

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  I hope each of you had a great summer.  I am excited about this school year and look forward to working with you and your eighth grade student.

The 8th graders serve an important role in our school community.  As our student leaders, they assist in setting the tone for our school culture and act as role models for the other grades.

The 8th grade team strives to:

  • Provide our students with opportunities to make positive change in their community

  • Develop our students’ organizational and study skills they will need for high school

  • Prepare our students to deal with social and emotional challenges

  • Prepare our students to become problem-solvers and critical thinkers

  • Help our students solidify grammar, writing, research and analysis skills

The 8th grade team is looking forward to a stellar year.

Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year. It is a great year to be a COMET! I will be working with our Title I Program this year. Snellville Middle School held our Title I Planning Meeting on August 4, 2018. We invited all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, administrators, and community partners, to participate in the planning of the Title I program and budget. Together, we analyzed data to determine the needs of the school and set goals for the school year. Stakeholders participated in the planning and improvement of our school-wide and parent involvement programs, and parents had the opportunity to provide written feedback of their suggestions for revisions on how we serve our students.

COMET Parents have multiple opportunities throughout the year to provide their input through parent workshop evaluations, planning meetings, parent conferences, Student Support meetings and much much more!  Also, please join us for our Annual Title I Meeting on September 14th at 6:00 pm and September 15th at 11:00 am.

I also facilitate District Assessment and the Student Performance Growth Test (SPG). The District Assessments focus on the core curricula areas while the SPGs focus on electives (Connections).  We are winding down our pre-tests, which students started taking on the second day of school. Our teachers will use the data from these pre-tests to help drive the learning process. Teachers will also use this assessment data to work collaboratively to refine instruction, and target instruction to meet the needs of all learners.

Additionally, I work with Clubs and Activities. Please look at the Snellville Middle webpage (www.snellvillemiddle.org) under Students/Clubs and Activities to see all of the opportunities available to your child to get involved and exhibit school spirit….from Robotics to Basketball!!  Your child will develop useful skills like better communication, teamwork, organizational, management, and most importantly they will make life-long friends. Get Involved and make school more fun!

Lastly, I want to encourage you to visit our Parent Center, located across from the Main Office. Our Parent Center has many resources like books, study materials, games, and activities you can check out to use at home with your child. Have a great year!!
