Please join us in congratulating our very own 8th grader, Macire Kebe for being selected to serve on the 2018-2019 State School Superintendent's Student Advisory Council.

Macire was selected from a pool of approximately  1,000 applicants. And she is one of three middle school students selected to represent Gwinnett County. Throughout the school year she, along with the other middle school members, will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom. Members of the Student Advisory Council will also discuss other issues related to education, serve as the Superintendent’s ambassadors to their respective schools, and participate in service projects to benefit schools and students.

She is really excited to represent Snellville Middle School and to have the opportunity to share her thoughts and ideas in hopes of helping other students.

When you see Macire, please be sure to congratulate her and let her know how proud we are of her!

Way to go, Macire!

6th Grade Parents,

Thank you for a wonderful first six weeks of school.  Our students seem to have adjusted well to middle school expectations.  Over the next several weeks the students will learn about ratio and proportions in math, rocks and minerals in science, European history in Social Studies, and focusing on elements of literature using short stories in Language Arts. Consider ways to incorporate these topics into your daily conversation.  As part of the Social Studies curriculum, the students will take part in a field trip to Junior Achievement Biztown.  This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about real life skills.  The students will spend one day either October 1st, 2nd, or 3rd on this field trip.  Please let your child’s Social Studies teacher know if you are able to be a part of this wonderful experience.

Thank you for continuing to have high academic and behavior expectations for your student.  Continue to encourage a minimum of 20 minutes of reading and practice in mathematics each night in addition to any class assignment.  It is important for us to partner together in multiple ways in order for our students to achieve at the highest level.

Please let us know how we can continue to support you and your student.

It has been a fantastic six weeks! Our seventh graders are off to a great start. The students have embraced their new teachers, a new curriculum and made a few new friends.

During the week of September 17th the Social Studies department will Celebrate Constitution Day. This is the day on which the delegates to the Philadelphia Convention completed and signed the Constitution. Life Science classrooms are exploring life from the smallest scale-cells! From hand-made models to real cells under microscopes, from organelles to organs, students will be learning how cells function individually and work together so that multicellular life can exist. Students will engage in the science and engineering practices of “developing and evaluating models” and “constructing scientific explanations” to build their understanding of cells.

Ms. Luevenia Holloway

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. I am the new 8th grade assistant principal, Dr. Twanitta Martin. We have completed 6 weeks of our 1st semester. Please be aware that your child’s teachers will be contacting you if there is a need for a parent conference due to your child’s current grades.

To earn promotion to the 9th grade,

  • Students are required to pass five out of six subjects each semester. Language Arts and Mathematics must be two of the five subjects passed.

  • Should a student not earn promotion to 9th grade, he or she may have the opportunity to attend summer school to learn the AKS curriculum not mastered during the school year. Students may attend summer school for no more than two semester-long classes.

  • In Georgia, 8th grade students also are required to achieve Grade Level or Above on the Reading and Vocabulary domain of the Language Arts Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) Assessment and achieve the performance level of Developing or higher on the Mathematics Georgia Milestones EOG Assessment. Students who do not meet either of these state promotion requirements may be required to retest after summer school.

  • A Special Education student’s promotion is determined by his or her Individualized Education Program (IEP).

We are eager to foster a dialogue with our Comet Families and to keep you informed on how we use Title I Funding to support your child. We also want to hear your ideas!
