About The Last Six Weeks

This week concludes our first 6 weeks in school. At this time, we are able to see where our students are academically.

In 6th grade, students have been learning about the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. With a growth mindset students are able to acknowledge that although they may not be where they want to be academically, but with a little more effort they will be able to attain their goals. We want to encourage our students’ efforts and ensure that they do not give up prematurely on themselves because the sky is the limit.

In 7th grade, we are supporting our students in accepting the increased rigor of 7th grade and emphasizing academic excellence. There are many studying skills, organizational skills, and commitment to academics to ensure their success this year and beyond. Seventh grade is a pivotal time for students to truly develop and commit to the skills and attitudes towards school to ensure that they can reach the goals they have set for themselves.

In 8th grade, Ms. Butler has been helping our students look towards the future. High school preparation and career exploration have been the topics of discussion. South Gwinnett High School has a lot to offer our students and we want to ensure that our students are well versed in all that South Gwinnett has to offer and are adequately prepared for their transition to high school.

Career Exploration in Middle School

Career development in the middle school years is vital to our students exploring their natural interest prior to transitioning in high school. Early exposure to career information and assessment can mean earlier planning for high school courses and post-secondary options.

Over the last several days, eighth grade students have been intentionally thinking about their personal preferences and inputting that information into a career assessment to see how those likes and dislikes translate into career fields or Career Clusters as named by the GADOE. Through classroom lessons, students expand their thinking about education and how it relates to their future personal goals. We are also raising their awareness about new career options as the result of a growing market and globalization.

Next week, all eight grade students will be going to JA FinancePark at the Discovery Center. Our students will be given a career and life situation with the challenge to navigate their financial budget. Most students walk away with a renewed respect for becoming an adult.

Motivation & Studying

Middle school years are a transition period for many students. With the help and support from friends, family, teachers and staff all of our students can be successful and reach the stars. Sometimes we need a little motivation to avoid procrastination. Below is an article about how one can motivate themselves to study and gain understanding about why they may be engaging in avoidance behaviors.

Hello Snellville Middle Parents, Guardians and Students!

Our students are getting excited about for the 3rd annual Snellville Middle Color Walk!  This event will take place on Friday, September 28th and you don’t want your child to miss out on the colorful fun!

The Color Walk is an opportunity for your child to walk while developing social skills with their peers.  Color powder will be sprinkled on the students.  Students will receive individual packs of color powder.  A concession stand will be open for students who wish to purchase snacks, neon sunglasses and extra color powder.  Concession items are only $1.00 each.

Tickets will be sold on campus Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, before school starts, for $10.00 cash.  Parents you have the option to pay on MyPaymentsPlus.   Please be sure your child returns the signed permission form along with the cash payment.  Tickets purchased on Friday morning will be $15.00 cash only.

We encourage you to allow your child to participate!  Don’t worry … the color powder is harmless.

Volunteers are needed: If you would like to volunteer for help with the Color Walk, simply call the main office at Snellville Middle.
