The Principal’s Update: April

The Spring came suddenly,

Bursting upon the world as

A child bursts into a room,

With a laugh and a shout

And hands full of flowers.

For many of us the month of April officially signifies two seasons: Spring and Testing.  We begin testing for Georgia Milestones the week of April 9th, this is the same week that we return from Spring Break. It is very important that students do not miss any days of testing.

This year, the state testing window has expanded and our school will be in a testing environment for the entire month of April.  There may be modifications to the daily schedule for students based on testing. It is imperative that you are aware of the testing days and dates for your child’s testing. Please check your personal calendar against the dates below to be sure that any medical or dental appointments are not scheduled during your child’s testing or that need to be rescheduled. Testing will begin each day at 9:30 a.m. and will end around 12:00 p.m.  Students cannot be checked out while testing is in session.

End of Year Awards

The end of year awards celebrations are quickly approaching! Students' eligibility for these awards will be determined by their grades from first semester and second semester through Friday, April 19th.  Students are encouraged to complete all recent assignments so that all of their work will be included for award/recognition eligibility. Students who are receiving awards will receive an invitation to attend.

Stay Informed with the Parent Portal

If you are not already on the Parent Portal please stop by the office and sign up.   This awesome resource allows you to track your child's grades and attendance in real time from any computer.

We know our teachers have been preparing our students all year and the students have been working hard! They have the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful on the GMAS and/or EOCT. We want every student to be focused!  Be sure that your child is test ready during this time by powering down technology earlier the night before, getting plenty of rest, and eating a good breakfast the day of testing.

Lastly, school wide Help Days will be modified based on grade level testing as follows:

No 8th grade Help Day – Wednesday, April 10th.  All other grade levels will have Help Day.

No 7th grade Help Day – Wednesday, April 17th.  All other grade levels will have Help Day.

No 6th grade Help Day – Wednesday, April 24th.  All other grade levels will have Help Day.

The last quarter of school marks a very busy time for everyone. We are in the very important final home stretch for students and student promotion.  Students need to show what they know, get laser focused and do their very best work every chance they get!

Parents, please be sure to read our weekly Comet Connection, look out for important dates and deadlines, and log on to the parent portal weekly to check grades and your child’s academic progress.

Warmest Regards,
