Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.

The month of March is packed with exciting events for students!
​

Thursday, March 12th is our PBIS celebration. Students will be able to redeem their Star Bucks to participate in a social event and enjoy a 'walking taco'!

Thursday, March 12 - Thursday, March 19th is interim testing. Interim assessments mark the halfway point in the semester. Students will be able to show what they've learned since returning from winter break and teachers will use that data to make adjustments to instruction, as needed.

Friday, March 20th is Career Day. Students will participate in a career fair to learn more about exciting new careers.

Friday, March 27th is SMS Fun Day! For $10 students can participate in carnival-style games, prizes, and concessions. Proceeds will benefit both Relay for Life and the Aimee Copeland Foundation. All payments must be made on MyPaymentsPlus.

The Principal’s Update: December
It’s hard to believe that we are already in the month of December. It seemed just a short time ago that I was writing the first Principal’s update in August. December is a short month for us and signifies that our first semester is rapidly coming to a close. Our students will have unit tests, projects to complete, and final exams over the next two weeks. Please be sure to help your child pay close attention to exam dates and important deadlines for classes. Check the parent portal and your child’s teachers’ eCLASS pages daily as we begin to close out the semester.
Final exams will begin taking place December 12th – December 19th, 2019. Please check your child’s teachers’ eCLASS pages for exam dates. All district final exams are given online and require our students to be present in school each day. Be sure to mark your calendar and plan any vacations after final exams are complete.
Thank you to all of our parents and grandparents who shared kind words, chaperoned field trips, provided goodies to teachers, completed surveys, volunteered time, provided materials, attended games and made sure your child was ready for school each day. We can not prepare tomorrow’s Promise—our students-- without you!

It's a Great Time to be a Comet! Hello from your PTSA! We rechartered only 60+ days ago and have already made strides in helping families like yours! Behind the scenes we are learning about what Comet Pride looks like through the eyes of Teachers, Staff, and Students. Parents, we are excited and ready to gather your thoughts on how we can help enhance your SMS experience. We are asking for your time of 5-7 minutes to complete a 10 Question PTA Survey. This tool has been great in our assessment of how we can be of service and what needs immediate response. Please send an email to snellvillemspta@gmail.com and we will send you the survey link. This will be our email for your inquiries and updates about the great things happening at SMS. Some of you may have already received the survey via email, please feel free to access from that link already provided.
The more information collected from your point of view, the more effective all parties become in servicing you and your child.
