Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

6th Grade Parents,

As the semester winds down, it is important for the students to understand the impact of final exams. This is a time to demonstrate mastery and retention of the material for the whole year thus far. Students did not participate in semester exams during elementary school, so this will be something we will all have to emphasize. Students should be actively reviewing each night. This includes reading, writing, and practicing skills learned throughout the year. The teachers have many resources on their eCLASS pages, so encourage your student to go there for help.

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your student. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me and let me know how I can help your student have a great rest of the year. Have a wonderful holiday break.

Happy Holidays!
In the last month, over 100 students participated in our 1st school wide PBIS Ice Cream Social. We celebrated students who were Ready, Respectful, and Responsible with ice cream sundaes that overflowed with tasty toppings!
Students are beginning to take their District Assessment Post Tests, and we know that they are prepared to do their best on the test! Post tests assess AKS learned over the 1st semester and provide teachers with invaluable data to enrich instruction during the 2nd semester. If your holiday plans requires students to miss a day of testing, they will be able to make up their post test in January when we return to school.
I wish you a safe and happy holiday!

We have 1 week remaining in our 1st semester. Teachers are working with your child to ensure effective proficient and distinguished activities that support their content AKS. As we finish out this semester, your child will have his/her District Assessment Final exams. Students will have a revised schedule next week to support the final DA. The testing schedule is as follows:

12/16- 2:10 pm-3:50 pm- their 1st academic class
12/17- 2:10 pm-3:50 pm- their 2nd academic class
12/18-2:10 pm- 3:50 pm- their 3rd academic class
12/19- 2:10 pm-3:50 pm- their 4th academic class.
Please continue to visit your child’s portal to monitor his/her grades for their final grade.
Review the promotion criteria with your child to ensure he/she is on the right track for promotion to the 9th grade:
About Promotion to 9th Grade
To earn promotion to the 9th grade, students are required to pass five out of six subjects each semester. Language Arts and Mathematics must be two of the five subjects passed. Should a student not earn promotion to 9th grade, he or she may have the opportunity to attend summer school to learn the AKS curriculum not mastered during the school year. Students may attend summer school for no more than two semester-long classes.
In Georgia, 8th grade students also are required to achieve Grade Level or above on the Reading and Vocabulary domain of the Language Arts Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) Assessment and achieve the performance level of Developing or higher on the Mathematics Georgia Milestones EOG Assessment. Students who do not meet either of these state promotion requirements may be required to retest after summer school.
Promotion for an English Learner (EL) or a student with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) is guided by his or her English Learner Proficiency Plan.
Getting ready for High School- it is not too early:
Ms. Butler has been working with your child in regards to what the requirements are for high school graduation in the state of Georgia.
SGHS administrators visited our 8th grade teachers in regards to 9th grade registration. Your child will bring home important information and forms to complete with deadlines.
