6th Grade and Connections Assistant Principal
Greetings Parents,

Thank you to all the parents/guardians that were able to make our student-led conferences. The students did an excellent job sharing their successes, areas of growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. The students truly benefit from this opportunity.

Next week we will start taking interim assessments. Please encourage your student to review as this assessment covers material from the beginning of the semester. The teachers use this assessment to determine areas each student needs to work on in addition to providing students feedback on their current progress. We will be taking the Milestone State Assessments after spring break, and this interim will help everyone understand what our students need to reach mastery. It is important that all of us work together for our students’ achievement, and you are a vital part of the team.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Snellville Middle Celebrates
National School Counseling Week

School counseling is a work of the heart. The week of February 3rd - February 7th is Counselor Appreciation Week. During this week, we recognize and celebrate our school counselors.
We are thankful for Ms. Shawnta Clarke, Ms. Aneisha Christie and Ms. Robin Butler for the work they do with our students each day.
Our counselors have "a heart full of love, ears ready to listen and hands willing to help." Thank you for what you do to help hold the heart of the school in your hands. We LOVE OUR COUNSELORS!
If you have been touched or helped by one of our counselors, please let them know with a quick note, email or some small token of your appreciation during counselor appreciation week.

Book Mobile Visits SMS

The annual Book Mobile visit was a resounding success as nearly five hundred books were selected by students in all grade levels. Students were called in small groups to browse the selection of new books on display inside Gwinnett’s mobile book store, a converted school bus that offers over a thousand works of fiction from which to choose. Each student selected one free book to keep and returned to class knowing they had a story that belonged to them.

STEAM Night- Jan 22, 2020

Our annual STEAM night was a success. Our parents and students enjoyed a night of interactive math and science activities, Jim Cherry Memorial Planetarium, and Birds of Prey. Science and math teachers along with some students had tables with hands on activities that supported our AKS. Some of our activities included: Balloon Lung Models, Lava Lamps in a Bottle, Non-Newtonian Fluid (Slime), Boats that Float, Repurposing Crayons, Straw Rockets, Chemical Reactions, Building Patterns, Inflating Balloons with Solids and Liquids, and Math Bingo. Our science teacher and Teacher of the Year, Tiffany Fortner, saw the vision and with the support from our science and math teachers, put together another great STEAM Night.
