We are heading to tournament play in basketball. Please come out and support our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams and spirited cheerleaders during our final weeks of competition. Super Saturday tournament games for the Eastern Division are this Saturday, February 8th at Archer High School.  Our boys’ game begins at 1:30 p.m. vs. Crews and our girls’ game is at 6:00 p.m. vs. Trickum.  Be sure to show your Comets pride and support and wear Comets Spiritwear to the game.  Look forward to seeing you there!

Annual Black History Program

Select students and teachers will host our 5th Annual Black History Program during the school day on Friday, February 28th  showcasing art, music, poetry and dance to celebrate black history and its influence in America. Each year our program grows and our students do such an outstanding job!  Auditions to participate in the program took place last week.  Good luck to all the students who auditioned!

Severe Weather Reminder

Dear Snellville Middle Parents and Families:

As we wrap up what has been a very active weather week in our area, I thought this was a good time to communicate to you the steps we take to ensure our students and staff are safe during weather events. We have weather alarms in our schools that sound to alert us when there is a weather watch or warning issued by the National Weather Service. All of our schools have School Safety Plans that address the steps we are to take in the event of situations like the one we encountered yesterday. As a result of yesterday’s tornado warning, students who had arrived onto campus early and were waiting outside were moved into the building to protected areas within our school. The district suspended school bus routes until it was safe for bus travel to resume.

Fortunately, yesterday’s weather moved quickly through our area and the warning did not produce a tornado. It did, however, serve as an excellent opportunity for us to again practice our severe weather protocols.

On days like yesterday when bad weather is predicted we all need to pay special attention. At school we practice drills and talk with students and staff about what to do in the case of bad weather.  Please be sure to have conversations with your middle schooler about what he or she should do in case they are at home, at the bus stop, or walking to school when a storm hits.

The school system sent a message out to parents, using SchoolMessenger, about the precautionary steps schools were taking and then notified families when the warning was lifted and normal school operations resumed. If you did not receive the message, please check with our front office or Ms. Blackshear in our parent center so that we can verify that we have accurate contact information for you.

I know the safety of our students and staff is a priority we all share.

Sincerely,

Katise Long

Community Partner Spotlight

At Snellville Middle School, the Snellville Church of Christ provided supplies for both teachers and students for the past two years. After offering their facility, we used it for the 8th grade end-of-year celebration as well as the Teacher/Leader SEC conference and meals where the church also provided the food. The church contributed holiday breakfasts and candy for staff in addition to PBIS store reward items. It also gives gift cards to families in need as well as Angel tree gifts for families.

Principal Katise Long says, "We are fortunate to have such strong community partners who support

students, staff and parents like Snellville

Church of Christ.  Strong community

partners builds a strong school."
