The Principal’s Update: March

The month of March is already upon us and we are almost finished with our 3rd quarter of school. Students will begin taking their district interim assessments the second week of March. Interim assessments help students and teachers to know where they are in their learning progress and if their learning is on track to reach mastery for promotion and on the end of year final exams and/or standardized testing. Please be sure to check your son or daughter’s teachers’ e-Class pages to find out more information and to help your child prepare for these important assessments.

We always have plenty to celebrate at Snellville Middle School. Our band, orchestra and chorus students will participate in GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation(LGPE) this month so let us wish them good luck. Our Fine Arts department is second to none! Good Luck to Mr. Turner, Ms. Donnaud and Mr. Smith and all of our fine arts students at LGPE!

Congratulations to our Science Fair Winners! Eseosa Omorogbe and Cooper Green. This team one 1st Place in the Plant Science category and will be moving on to compete in the State Science Fair in Athens March 26th – March 28th. Let’s wish this team good luck! Jade’N Towns, Amauri Smith, Ahnri Aiken and Mikael Tesfu’s science team and entry was so impressive that it earned the entire team an internship as 9th graders with the Gwinnett County Water Company. A special thank you goes to Mrs. Tiffany Fortner for leading and challenging our science fair students each year.  We are very proud of all our Science Fair students and teams that entered this year’s competition! Way to go!

Rising 6th Graders

Our rising 6th graders from both Norton and Britt Elementary had an opportunity to visit Snellville Middle this month to tour our school, learn about 6th grade expectations and the exciting opportunities that await them in middle school. We look forward to meeting our upcoming 6th grade parents during their visits this month.

Annual Black History Program

Thank you to all of our students who participated in our Annual Black History Program on February 28th. Our students did an outstanding job! It was truly a celebration of black history through art, poetry, drama, music, song, dance, and step. A special thank you to our teacher sponsors Ms. Rogers, Ms. McLain, Ms. Bowen, and Ms. Robinson!

Parents, we are doing marvelous things for our students at Snellville Middle! We will continue to challenge our students to become independent thinkers, leaders and life-long learners. I am a very proud principal!

Sincerely,

Katise Long

Principal
